Visakhapatnam: While nearly 20-30% of all train commuters from Visakhapatnam
station travel to and from Bengaluru, the station does not have a single regular train between Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru.
Many people travelling between the cities, mostly techies have to depend of
passing through the city railway station or on special trains operated occasionally.
Currently,

a total of six trains pass between
railway station and Bengaluru. All these trains come from either Odisha or West Bengal. Of the six trains, only two— Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru Prasanti Express and Howrah-Yesvantpur Express run daily.
N Gajapathi Rao, member of the East Coast Railway (ECoR), zonal consultative committee told TOI that it is unfortunate that there are no direct trains running between Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru. “The city has direct trains to smaller cities like Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Hatia, Tatanagar and Machilipatnam, but not to Bengaluru,” he said.
“The railways introduced Prasanti Express between Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru in 1998. But the point of origin was later shifted to Bhubaneswar in 2006,” Rao told TOI.
The railways operated a special train between Visakhapatnam and Yeswantpur for the last few years. The train received good patronage from passengers. But the railway decided to stop it in September 2018, informed P Ashok, a software engineer from MVP Colony.
Sources in the railways admitted that a direct train to Bengaluru is necessary to meet the rush of passengers.
“We have direct trains to Chennai and Hyderabad from Visakhapatnam, but not to Bengaluru. Nearly 20-30% commuters travel to that part of the country. We hope that there will be a direct train between Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru, once the SCoR is operational,” a railway official said.

First and foremost understand the operational constraints at SWR
1. In JTJ KJM section they wont allow any new train at morning and evening hours as the route is jam packed
2. Next route is via GNT DMM wherein GNT GY section is okay but GY YNK section is also choked due single and unless doubling is completed no new train will be introduced
3.
...
Terminal constraints at both SBC and YPR have to wait till BYPL Terminal gets completed and they cant even extend it to MYS as present trains are only too much in that section to control.
4. If all these issues are fixed then ECoR will happily introduce a train to Bangalore with good tt.
So before commenting on ECoR please understand these points and comment. ECoR is giving its best to VSKP. If the route in SWR is choked how can ECoR be blamed.

The Bengaluru division of South Western Railway (SWR) on Monday introduced a MEMU special train to Bangarpet.
In a release, the SWR stated that train number 06545 KSR Bengaluru – Bangarpet MEMU Special will depart at 5.00 a.m. and reach Bangarpet at 6.03 a.m.
In the return direction, train number 06546 Bangarpet – KSR Bengaluru MEMU Special will depart at 10.15 p.m. and reach KSR Bengaluru at 11.45 p.m.

train will have stoppages at Bengaluru Cantonment, Baiyappanahallli, K.R. Puram, Hoodi Halt, Whitefield, Devangonthi, Malur and Tyakal in both directions.
“Bangarpet is one of the important stations on the Bengaluru-Chennai route. All Chennai-bound trains and trains towards Bengaluru from Chennai have to pass through Bangarpet. It is the last railway junction in Karnataka before entering Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. This town is famous for rice trading. Being an important junction in the Bengaluru division, this station is identified as one of the model stations of South Western Railway,” states the release.

South Western Railway (SWR) authorities on Saturday did two things that are atypical of a government machinery.
Firstly, they completed an escalator installation project ahead of the deadline. Secondly, they got a labourer’s 10-year-old
daughter to inaugurate it without postponing the function for want of a VIP.
Both these acts at KSR Bengaluru City railway station won appreciation from the public and SWR employees.

The escalator at platform no. 4 and a renovated AC waiting hall were scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday evening by
Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan. But with prohibitory orders (Section 144) having been imposed in the backdrop of the Babri
Masjid verdict, the formal inaugural function was cancelled. With the MP making it clear that the project should be thrown open
for the public instead of delaying its use, railway officials got Begumma,10, whose mother Chandbi, 32, has been working at the
site for a few months, to do the ribbon-cutting.
This, perhaps, was the first time in recent years that a government project was inaugurated by the aam aadmi and without
much fanfare.
Work on the escalator project, which was conceived to help senior citizens, was initiated in September and was supposed to
be completed by 3pm on November 10. Bengaluru divisional railway manager Ashok Kumar Verma had installed a digital clock
to display the number of days, hours and seconds left for the deadline. Verma said: “We had placed a countdown clock at the
work site to monitor the progress. We were able to finish the project exactly 1 day, 11 minutes and 57 seconds before the
deadline was set to expire.” In fact, TOI had published a related report, ‘Countdown clock at railway station to remind staff
about deadlines’ (September 13)
Regarding the renovated AC waiting hall on platform number 1, railway authorities requested two senior citizens to inaugurate
it. “We saw them sitting at the platform and asked them to inaugurate the facility. They were both surprised and happy,” said
Verma.
New suburban train to Whitefield
SWR on Saturday flagged-off a new eight-coach DEMU train: 06559 KSR Bengaluru–Whitefield/06560 Whitefield–Bengaluru
Cantonment DEMU special. It will leave KSR Bengaluru City at 5.50pm and reach Whitefield at 6.40pm. In the return direction, it
will leave Whitefield at 6.50pm and reach Cantonment at 7.25pm. “There was a huge demand from the public for additional
services from Whitefield during this time,” said Verma. The train will stop at stations like Bengaluru East, Byappanahalli, KR
Puram and Hoodi halt

The Bengaluru division of the South Western Railways has decided to operate an additional service between Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station (KSR Bengaluru) to Whitefield station in the evening for the benefit of commuters. This train is in addition to the existing services.

to The Hindu, a senior official from the railways said that the train would benefit thousands of passengers, mainly employees in the IT sector. “Trains in the evenings are highly crowded. This new service will help ease the evening commute,” the official said.
Bengaluru Central Member of Parliament P.C. Mohan will flag off the service on Saturday.
