KARIMNAGAR/JAGTIAL/NIZAMABAD: Over 1,000 people from erstwhile Karimnagar district and Nizamabad who were stranded in Mumbai due to the lockdown boarded Shramik trains and finally reached their hometowns on Saturday. The passengers, including many women and children, boarded the special trains from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai on Friday. State officials from the Revenue, Health and Police department thermal-screened the passengers at Karimnagar, Jagtial and Nizamabad railway stations.
They were instructed to follow strict home quarantine, with officials stating that health workers would visit and monitor their health everyday. Around 825 persons arrived at Jagtial railway station and 44 persons at Karimnagar. Karimnagar Additional Collector GV Shyam Prasad Lal, who reached railway station to monitor the situation, stated that even though
they were informed that around 382 persons would board the train for the district, only 44 arrived.
All those who arrived were screened, and no one seemed sick, he added.  The passengers were sent home in three special buses and were provided with food pockets and water bottles. They were also stamped with the home quarantine mark.
At Nizamabad station, activists provided the 225 passengers who alighted with drinking water, food packets and fruits. Nizamabad DMHO M Sudharshanam has said that ASHA workers would regularly visit the passenger’s houses and conduct health check-ups. Three special trains were also allotted for Karimnagar to send migrant workers from Odisha working at a brick kiln back to their hometowns within two days. Over 2,100 workers have been identified to be sent home, said the Additional Collector.

Hyderabad: Considered by all as a top performer among all the zones in Indian Railways, the South Central Railway (SCR) in 2019 struggled with inordinate delays in completing many infrastructure-related projects in twin cities.Among the major prestigious projects, the much-awaited MMTS phase II has continued to face hurdles in the form of budget constraints and land acquisition. For years, commuters in the twin cities have been waiting for the completion of MMTS Phase-II, which could provide much-need relief in the daily commute. The MMTS Phase- II project was proposed with a cost of Rs.845 crore for a distance of 84 km on various sections including Secunderabad – Moulali – Ghatkesar, Secunderabad – Bolarum – Medchal, Moulali – Sanathnagar and Telapur – Ramchandrapuram.Out of these, only Telapur – Ramchandrapuram stretch was launched and works on remaining sections are still progressing. Officials familiar with the initiative said that Rs.400 crore is still required to complete...
the project. The project also got delayed due to difficulties in land acquisition in some pockets of Sanathnagar – Moulali section.Railway officials said that works on Secunderabad – Bolarum section are nearing completion. Another SCR initiative of developing the existing Cherlapally station as a terminal at an estimated cost of Rs 350 crore is also hit by inordinate delays. The project, which commenced in 2017, has not witnessed much change as works are still progressing.New railway tracksIn addition, Akanapet-Medak’s new rail connectivity is yet to be completed, which was supposed to be completed by March. The budget given by Indian Railways for Akanapet–Medak new line from 2014-15 to 2018-19 was Rs 169 crore and the budgetary allocation for the 2018-19 financial year was Rs122.27 crore. The works related to construction of new railway line connecting Hyderabad and Karimnagar (Manoharabad – Kothapalli) are progressing. This new line project was sanctioned for a distance of 151.40 km at an estimated cost of Rs 1160 crore. The rail line is crucial as the entire belt has several important towns including pilgrim centres.New MMTS rakesThis year, SCR introduced new MMTS rakes on various sections in twin cities to accommodate increasing passenger rush. These 12 coach MMTS rakes with different colour patterns and glossy looks have a capacity of 1150 seats while standing capacity is around 4000. SCR has also enhanced facilities in a few stations and trains this year and among them, introduction of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches is the main highlight, which replaced the conventional coaches.Trains including Lingampalli-Tirupati Narayanadri Express, Hyderabad–New Delhi Telangana Express, Hyderabad–Tirupati Rayalaseema Express and Hyderabad–Chennai Charminar Express have been upgraded with LHB coaches. This apart, Head on Generation (HOG),a 3state-of-the-art new technology has been introduced in LHB coaches, which saves a lot of financial resources for SCR.Now you can get handpicked stories from Telangana Today on WhatsApp / Telegram everyday. Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender and others flagging off the inaugural train service from Karimnagar to Mumbai at Karimnagar railway station on Wednesday.
The Karimnagar railway station would soon emerge as one of the biggest railway junctions in Telangana connecting north, south, west and east of the country, said Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar.
Speaking after flagging off the inaugural train service from Karimnagar to Mumbai via Nizamabad at Karimnagar railway station on the outskirts of the town on Wednesday, he said the TRS government was taking all steps
to introduce a train service from Hyderabad (Manoharabad) to Kothapalli (Karimnagar) via Sircilla, Siddipet and Gajwel by completing the new railway line soon.
Besides, they have also proposed a new railway line from Kazipet to Karimnagar via Huzurabad to ease rail traffic on the GT road connecting south and north India as well as provide rail connectivity from Karimnagar to Hyderabad via Jangaon. Mr. Kumar said they were planning to introduce a direct train service from Karimnagar to New Delhi. He said they were exerting pressure on the railways to operate daily train service from Karimnagar to Tirupathi instead of the existing biweekly train.
Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Eatala Rajender said the railway line between Karimnagar and Mumbai would benefit people migrating from the erstwhile Karimnagar district to Maharashtra to eke out a living. He also said the TRS government was taking all measures to have more railway lines in the State to provide cheapest and safest transportation to common man.
Earlier, Union Minister of State for Railways Rajan Gohain switched on the lights to launch the Karimnagar-Mumbai train service.
The train would be operated from Lokmanya Tilak terminus (Mumbai) on every Saturday which would depart at 4.40 p.m. and arrive at Karimnagar on Sunday at 12.45 p.m. covering a distance of 848 km.
MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, Mayor S. Ravinder Singh, Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad, Commissioner of Police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, former legislator Gangula Kamalakar, SCR ADRM Shailendra Singh and others were also present.
